I got an email from a staff member and then scheduled and attended an interview. It was a really nice process. I met with the director and direct manager for the role. It was fast, and they were clear about the steps involved and when I could expect to hear back, and they did follow up within that timeframe.

I applied online on their careers website. About a week later, I got a call for an interview. First, I spoke with the nurse recruiter who asked about my clinical skills and work experience, plus some situational questions. Then I went to SJRMC in Paterson to meet with the nurse manager and another nurse. They asked me basic questions and some about my resume. After that, the nurse showed me the floor and answered my questions about the unit. The next week, they called to offer me the position.

I had a group interview. The clinical director was really cold, abrupt, and rude. While flipping through my resume, which has outstanding work references, he questioned my decades in hospice and fixated on why I had moved, trying to highlight what he saw as a lack of "stability." He insulted me and didn't seem to have the management skills to see what I could contribute to their current challenges. It was the worst interview I've experienced in over 20 years of nursing and nurse management.
