First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at St. John's University.
Student Worker
I had one interview with my supervisor, it was a one-on-one. We talked about typical behavioral things and my resume, and they asked a couple questions about the specific work I'd be doing.
- What do you consider your greatest strength?
- What do you consider your greatest weakness?
- Tell me about your resume.
Reporting Analyst
So first, the recruiter gave me a call. After that, I had an in-person interview where about 5 to 6 people were present. They asked me about my past work experience and specifically about my knowledge of Argos and Ellucian Banner. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job because they were looking for someone with more experience, like a senior level candidate.
- Can you provide examples of your work experience with Ellucian Banner?
- Can you provide examples of your work experience with Argos?
Research Lab Analyst
I got the opportunity through a student who was leaving that lab for another one more to his liking and referred me. The only questions I was asked by the Professor centered on my experience and knowledge of the area of expertise and how flexible I could possibly be. I responded with honesty, stating that I had no experience outside of attending labs for classes, and my flexibility would be limited to do days a week. The Professor was very accommodating and stressed the importance of obtaining experience for future opportunities.
- Can you tell me about your experience level?
- What is your experience and knowledge in this area of expertise?
- How flexible can you be?
Graduate Assistant
The interview process was very smooth. I went in personally to the different departments and one called me back. I had a brief phone interview and then they asked me to schedule a time to come in for a face to face interview. The entire interview lasted about an hour and change but it was more of a getting to know one another interview. It almost seemed like they wanted to just get a feel for me and if they would to work with me, not necessarily checking for qualifications.
- Can you share an instance of your teamwork skills?
