First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at St.George Bank.
Customer Service Officer
I was put forward for this role, sent my resume to the brand manager and heard back in a week via phone from HR to do an online questionnaire. Right after, I was asked to do a video interview, which felt a bit weird, so I put it off till the next day. It took two weeks to hear back and then I was invited to interview with the branch manager and a talent acquisition specialist. They were both really nice and made me feel comfortable during the interview. The next day, I got a call to do my background & reference check. Then, two weeks later, I got to visit the branch to see what the job was like, and they offered me the position. It was a long process, but I felt it was great and I was well-prepared for my first day. I made sure to really research the role and the local branch. My advice is to not be scared to ask questions, and if you don't get a question, ask them to explain it.
- Tell me about your three biggest accomplishments.
- Imagine you need to sell a mobile phone to an elderly lady who has called her son.
Customer Service Officer
I applied online and got an email the next day for an online quiz with personality and basic problem-solving questions. I passed that and then had an online video interview, but I didn't pass that stage. The questions were okay, but the whole setup made me really anxious and uneasy because I had to read each question and then record each answer separately, and seeing myself answer questions and not talking to someone live made it tough to act like I was talking to a real person.
- Could you tell me about your previous customer service experience?
- Do you have prior sales experience?
- Have you previously worked in the financial services industry?
Lending Manager
I applied for the Lending Manager position at Westpac but didn't move forward because I didn't pass their culture survey. I then applied for the same role at St George, which is owned by Westpac. I was hesitant to take the test again, but recruitment insisted. The first interview was short, with an acting team leader and another manager. They seemed to be looking for someone who could handle high volume and work pressure, as their KPIs and targets were significantly higher than other banks, which they attributed to being a larger, busier bank. It made me wonder why one would work there given the increased workload and hours for only slightly more pay. I also heard they don't train new staff well and expect them to perform with minimal support. It's interesting they've been hiring for this role for over six months and eventually hired someone from my previous company who struggled with client files, ironically requiring my assistance. They ended up hiring someone from my old company whom I had to help out from time to time because he couldn’t manage his client files.
- Can you tell me about your current target and the number of applications you submit daily, and how you handle working under pressure?
Customer Service Officer
I applied for this role on their website and right after that, I got an email to do the gallup test. It's a pretty extensive character test, took me about 15-20 minutes. A few minutes after finishing the test, I got invited to do an online interview. I guess I got the email so fast because I must have passed the test. About a week later, they invited me for an in-person interview.
- Can you share a time you provided an exceptional customer experience?
