First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SSA & Company.
Analyst
I applied to SSA & Company through Monster.com and heard back from the recruiter quickly. We had a phone call to go over my background. Next, I talked to another analyst for about 30 minutes, with the first half being behavioral and the second half a simple case question to check my thinking. The third round was cool; I had to make a PPT presentation about one of their major clients, covering their background, current trends, and how SSA could help. After passing that, I went for the final in-person interview, which lasted just under a month total. This included meeting with the recruiter again (30 min), the Head of HR (30 min), two senior managers (30-40 min), and having lunch with an analyst. All these later interviews were behavioral. It was a thorough process, but not too hard. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer, which I think was because I stumbled on the 'Why SSA & Company?' question, only giving two reasons when they wanted more. I think SSA missed out.
- Analyze this financial data for two competing companies (A and B) that produce identical products: Year 1: Company A: Revs $50M, OpEx $40M. Company B: Revs $50M, OpEx $25M. Year 2: Company A: Revs $75M, OpEx $40M. Company B: Revs $50M, OpEx $40M.
- Prepare a presentation on a major client, including their background, recent trends/events, and how SSA & Company can provide value.
- Provide multiple reasons for your interest in working for SSA & Company.
Business Analyst
I applied in Jan 2023 and heard back pretty quickly. First, there was a screening chat with the recruiter which went well. Then, I had my first case interview, which was about cost reduction and was fairly easy. The interviewer was very approachable. After that, there was an Excel test which was hard to finish on time. Finally, a take-home case assignment where I had to make slides for a client about how SSA can help. I got rejected after that, but was told there was a CEO chat as a final step. I personally feel I had included a lot of analysis for the case assignment, but received the feedback that I could go more in-depth. Felt like they needed free labor to use in their pitches/business development. I don't think anyone should be spending 40 hours a week on a case assignment, especially when there are so many steps to the interview process that lasted two months.
- Can you tell us why you are interested in SSA?
- Please introduce yourself.
Director
This took a really long time, like 4 months and 7 rounds. I thought about leaving, but I liked the work and the junior people I met. After the 6th round, they said they'd get back to me, but instead, they invited me for another one. They told me it wasn't really an interview, just a chat to meet more people, and that they'd already decided to hire me. Then, a week later, I got a generic rejection email from the slow recruiter. No feedback was given for all the time I spent. It really shows what the company culture is like.
- Can you introduce yourself, and explain why you are interested in this company?
Associate Director
The interview process was pretty smooth overall. It started with a call from the senior recruiter who explained the role and let me know if it was something I'd be interested in. Then, I had interviews with other managers at the company, where we talked about technical and strategic stuff and if I'd fit in. After the interviews, SSA & Company got back to me pretty fast with a call and an email.
- Role-play and practical demonstration was the most challenging step of the entire process. It is one thing to be able to answer difficult questions under pressure, but to perform under pressure is what on many occasions is the decision maker.
