Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SS&C.
Fund Accountant
Interview was very easy. They only asked basic questions about fund accounting. Covered topics like private equity, hedge fund, repo, corporate action etc. Also asked about cash rec, packages (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly & annual), removal of variance, wire transfer etc. Included questions about hid no removal and swift messages.
- Can you define private equity?
- What constitutes a hedge fund?
Accountant
The first interview was pretty good. The hiring manager was nice and explained the job well. They also talked about the CPA exam and how the company supports it. It was great to have a manager care about my career. But, the director in the second interview was really bad. I explained my resume gaps, and the director didn't believe me. I mentioned failing the CPA exam once and wanting to retake it. The director rudely questioned why I wouldn't take an easier CPA from another country. The director was emotional and the interview environment was terrible. Honestly, it felt like a waste of time. The company might be okay, and maybe your experience would be different.
- Can we review your resume together?
Staff Accountant
I did not apply for this role but was convinced to interview by the recruiter. The interview was 2 hours total, split into two 1-hour sessions, the first with 2 interviewers and the second with 3. The recruiter said they usually hire a finance person for the analytical skills and have software for the accounting tasks. During the second half, I felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. The main interviewer kept flipping my resume and chuckling. He mentioned they wanted someone with an accounting degree and suggested I explore other departments. He also questioned how I secured the interview and criticized the recruiter and hiring process. This was the worst interview experience I have ever had, and I would not work for this company.
