First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SPX Technologies.
Software Engineer
The first person I spoke with was from HR and was really nice. We ended up talking a lot about random college stuff. But when it was time for interview questions, they got serious really fast, so you gotta be ready to switch gears. They didn't ask a ton of questions, so really take your time to explain your answers. If you can, try to highlight a few different skills with one answer and don't worry about going over time.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered and how you handled it?
- What's something unique about you that isn't apparent from your resume or appearance?
Software Engineer
I heard about this role through a colleague, applied online, and was contacted by the recruitment firm (STS). They described the opening in more detail, and I decided to pursue it. The first step was supposed to be a phone interview, but SPX missed it without explanation. We rescheduled a second phone interview with the Director of Software Engineering, where they asked about my background and RTOS experience, but it wasn't very technical. I was then invited for an on-site interview, which was supposed to be a panel and not a grilling. It involved the Director of Software Engineering and some engineers. The questions weren't hard, and amusingly, one engineer asked a question that another engineer answered. One interviewer spent a lot of time complaining about the company. I couldn't get a straight answer about the working environment. After that, there was a required on-site interview with the Director of HR. This person was nice, and I was invited to send questions about benefits, which were a bit hard to get specific cost answers for. SPX then made me an offer.
- I was expecting more questions focused on behavior, but there were none from the HR Director.
Software Engineer
I interviewed with 3 folks, a team lead, the hiring manager, and the head of software. They mostly talked about my work history and wanted me to explain the technical details to verify I was hands-on. Some questions were about how to solve different problems.
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
