Technical Coding Coding

The hiring process started with an 115-minute Hackerrank test, which had some technical issues and was poorly constructed. After that, there was an HR screen with some open-ended technical questions and limited feedback; the HR person was also late and sent confusing instructions about the call. Next, a 30-minute 1:1 manager interview via video call, which also featured open-ended questions without feedback. This was followed by another timed coding test, seemingly harder than the first. Then, another video interview with more employees, which appeared to be even more challenging. It seems like there are likely more rounds to come. The hiring manager was notably cold and impersonal, offering no guidance even when asked, and abruptly ended the call early, giving the impression that the candidate was wasting their time. This whole experience, combined with other negative reviews about the company's data practices, makes me question the company's integrity.

Behavioral Technical Coding

First, I had an HR screen call where they asked some quick technical questions and general questions about my background and experience. Then, I was told the next round would be a coding screen via a CoderPad link. I asked for more details on what to expect and prepare for, but didn't get a response, so I just studied LeetCode and data structures. It turned out the second round was actually with the hiring manager, who spent about 45 minutes digging deep into my resume. After that, they showed me a code snippet and asked me to explain and debug it. I was totally caught off guard by this unexpected turn.

I went through the interview process at Spokeo for a Product Manager, Data role. It took about 5 weeks from application to decision, with 9 calls in total. 7 of these were actual interviews, one was a prep call with TA, and the last was for the decision. I asked about a possible role upgrade early on due to my experience, and they said it was possible based on performance. Interviews were scheduled quickly after passing screenings. I found it odd that the role reported to Operations, not the PM team, and the CEO even sent a LinkedIn request. Their online content seemed unprofessional, promoting fear. TA said decisions would be in 24 hours, but that didn't happen. The CTO promised feedback that was delayed. They later upgraded the title to Principal PM, Data, but the pay didn't change. There's a lack of intermediate PM roles, suggesting limited career growth, though they posted a Sr. PM role later. This suggests the company is still growing. I'm curious how they'll handle new data privacy laws.

I applied to Spokeo and got a call within 24 hours for a phone screen. The screen with the Sr. Tech Recruiter went super well; he was really thorough about the process and knew a lot about the company and role. About a week later, I had two more interviews, one with the Talent Acquisition Manager and another with the Director of Talent Acquisition. Both were great! A week and a half after that, the Sr. Tech Recruiter called to offer me the job. The whole candidate experience was awesome - everyone I talked to was energetic and knew their stuff about the company and the role. It's great that Spokeo cares about the candidate experience!
