Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spiceworks Ziff Davis.
Senior Account Executive
I was contacted by an in-house recruiter on LinkedIn. We had a single, 45-minute phone interview that went well. The recruiter asked about my willingness to relocate to Austin, but I had to decline as the San Francisco role wasn't the best match for my experience level.
- Can you describe your experience in IT and in selling to senior IT decision-makers?
Account Executive
I was contacted via Linkedin by a recruiter about a new position. I replied positively, and we scheduled a call to discuss my past experience and the role, including salary expectations and the general compensation. After that went well, I was invited for an in-person interview two days later. The in-person interview lasted two hours, with four different people each taking half an hour. Everyone was very friendly and approachable. They asked many well-thought-out, insightful, and deliberate questions, but the overall feeling was like a relaxed and effective chat with old friends, making me feel completely at ease. That also went well, leading to a second round of in-person interviews with the founders. I was nervous, but it turned out to be unnecessary. I met with three C-suite members who were very down-to-earth, open, and genuinely interested in me as a person rather than just an interviewee. Their passion for collaboration and open teamwork to grow Spiceworks was inspiring. I left after another two hours of interviewing, feeling very positive and eager to join. The next day, my recruiter extended an offer. The compensation package was lower than initially discussed, but the company's strong growth opportunities and excellent team culture made it an easy decision to accept.
- Lots of questions were framed in casual conversation - very effective.
Account Executive
The interview process at Spiceworks was really thorough, with 4 stages in total. It kicked off with a phone interview, followed by 3 in-person meetings that included a mock sales pitch. While some might find this a bit much, I actually thought it was great because the interviews were so organized and provided a lot of insight. Everyone I met, from the recruiter to the CEO, was super welcoming, making me feel comfortable right away. It was a good opportunity to learn about the company and for them to see if I'd be a good fit. All in all, a really positive experience.
- The mock sales pitch was the most nerve-wracking part for me, but if you go in prepared with a solid strategy, you'll do just fine.
