Software Engineer
I interviewed for a Software Engineer position, but the experience was totally misaligned with the job description. The interviewer focused only on DevOps stuff like Terraform, Docker, and AWS infrastructure. There were no coding questions, and I didn't get to show any software development skills. The interviewer also didn't have their camera on, which made it feel disengaged. Even though I nailed all their DevOps questions, they said they were 'looking for more experience,' even though I had no chance to show coding ability. I asked the interviewer why the role was called Software Engineer when it was really DevOps-focused, and they said 'no coding is really involved.' In the end, you can't expect a Software Engineer to also be a DevOps or SysAdmin — those are different skill sets. The role should be about software engineering and coding, not managing infrastructure. Companies need to be clearer about what they expect and what Software Engineering actually means.

Senior Software Engineer
The first step was a recruiter call where they asked about my technical background to see if I'd be a good fit for the manager. Then I had a second round with the hiring manager, answering more technical questions and doing a short 15-minute live coding exercise. The third round involved a take-home assignment, followed by a panel discussion about the design choices. Unfortunately, I didn't make it past the third round because they extended an offer to someone else who had already accepted the role, even though I had completed the take-home and was waiting for the panel discussion.

Software Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward, mostly behavioral questions with a few basic technical ones. The technical questions seemed to be mostly about confirming the skills listed on my resume. I had two interviews: one with my direct manager and then one with the department manager. The whole thing was very fast; I heard back the same day about moving to the next stage.

- Tell me about your experience with programming languages.
- Can you elaborate on the skills listed on your resume?
