Network Engineer
It was a casual call with the recruiter where we chatted about my background, skills, work history and networking in general. They were pretty open about what the day-to-day would look like and compensation. It was a single phone interview with the recruiter and they were quick to get back to me after I first reached out.
- Can you tell me about your general experience with design work?
- What's your experience with basic routing and switching, specifically OSPF, ISIS, and BGP?
Network Engineer
The interview went well, and they mainly assessed my suitability for enterprise-level networking. They delved deeply into routing, and for some roles, they also inquired about F5 and A10 load balancers, as well as ASA.
- What are the fundamentals of L2 protocols?
- What are the fundamentals of L3 protocols?
- Can you discuss your experience with enterprise-level networking?
Network Operations Engineer
I was sent to Charter by a staffing agency because they needed to hire several contract-to-hire NOC employees due to the Time Warner Merger. The job description required an Associate's or Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience with basic networking knowledge. I had 1 year of experience with an Associate's degree. My interview started with the interviewer commenting on my Associate's degree. He said he would stick to the script to keep it fair, but he was very dismissive and skipped many scripted questions, saying I wouldn't know the answers. He only asked me one technical question.
- At which layer of the OSI model does the TCP/IP protocol operate?
