I had a call with a recruiter who was great, then a call with the team lead who was punctual and very prepared. I was expecting an offer letter but instead got an email late saying I needed to do an in-person interview the next week, which wasn't mentioned before even though the position is remote. I told them I couldn't come that week due to work/family but could do it another time or meet the team once I started. The recruiter said it was mandatory and apologized, saying leadership changed the requirements mid-process. I pulled out then, it seemed like something weird was happening between leadership and recruiters because the process changed so randomly and the recruiters seemed annoyed.

I found this role on LinkedIn and a recruiter contacted me about 5 days later. We then scheduled a screening call on Google Meet. She mentioned that cameras should be on during the call. The call happened the next day and went well. She mentioned there would be one more interview that covered technical and behavioral aspects. She asked if I could do it right after the call or on another day. I was surprised when she said the interview would take place right after the call. Later, I found out that this was a fake interview. I think they want to hire someone on H1B and are conducting these interviews to justify the hire by saying they interviewed local candidates and didn't find a good match. We then scheduled a second interview for the next day. During this interview, several odd things happened that made me more suspicious. A manager joined the interview late and seemed unprepared. Her camera was off, even though the company policy states, "SFI now conducts all screen calls as camera-on video calls via Google Meet." She only asked 3-4 general questions in about 10 minutes. None of the questions were behavioral; they were vague questions like, "Tell me about your experience with..." After her questions, she said, "I don’t have any questions. Do you have any questions?" even though the interview was scheduled for 30 minutes. I worked hard and prepared a lot for this interview and I find this unprofessional and dismissive behavior unacceptable. If they already had someone in mind for the role, it would have been more ethical to move forward with them directly instead of giving false hope to other applicants.

My interview process started in August 2024 with a Google Meet call with the Project Manager and the Tech Lead (though their video was off). This was followed by an offer letter in September 2024, which I accepted, but it was conditional on obtaining a Federal Security Clearance, a process that typically takes 4-6 weeks. However, all communication with the Federal agencies (FMCSA and FBIS) had to go through Spatial Front. I never received any indication that my Security Clearance was progressing, and the Federal agencies themselves stated they had received no paperwork on my behalf. This felt like a major red flag and possibly indicative of fraud, so I refused to complete the Personal Identity Verification, which the Project Manager was supposed to guide me through. Because of these suspicious procedural issues, I declined the employment offer.

Had a technical and behavioral video call. The technical interviewer was super nice and asked me some questions about concepts and data structures for the languages I mentioned. I also did some coding in my preferred language using an online IDE.
