The initial interview was a quick video chat with the CEO due to COVID. He asked about my writing background, creative methods, and typical project turnaround times. After our chat, I sent a thank-you note and offered further assistance. He replied later that day asking for a writing sample, providing two blog topics with keywords and search volume, and leaving the choice of topic to me. Since it was Friday night and I have another job, I wanted to consider the sample carefully. On Monday afternoon, I followed up to ask about a deadline for the sample, as none was given. Hours later, after business hours, he responded saying he'd already received samples from others and I didn't need to submit one. This felt unprofessional and unrealistic. I felt I was more than a 'junior' copywriter, given my 9 years of experience, and would have done a great job. Looking at other reviews for Sparxoo, it seems I might have avoided a negative experience. Their unprofessional responses to reviews suggest a lack of courtesy and awareness.

The whole thing took over four months before I finally bailed. I applied online and then got an email saying they liked my resume and wanted to do a phone interview. I scheduled it for the next week. The call was pretty straightforward, just asking me to talk about myself and my background. After that, they had me do an online personality test and some other weird math questions. Seemed a bit strange, but I went through with it. About a week or two later, they emailed, wanting me to come in for an in-person interview. When I got there, nobody even acknowledged me or looked up. Finally, someone asked what I was there for and said they'd let someone know. During the tour, it was the same – no one paid attention or said hi. The office felt really cold and quiet, unlike other creative places I've worked. I first interviewed with two people, and then the CEO/Founder. The first interview was much better; we had good stuff to talk about. The CEO interview was less productive, focusing more on another personality test using cards. I was surprised by how little they had figured out regarding their roadmap and business goals. I asked a bunch of questions about their business, and it left me really uncertain if they could even afford to pay anyone, given their lack of drive. I know how these personality tests work and gave them answers I don't think they expected. By this point, I already thought it was a childish company that couldn't make basic decisions without me taking what felt like a Facebook quiz. I kept my cool and stayed professional and enthusiastic, though. After I left, they said they'd let me know soon. I emailed HR to thank them and said I hoped to hear back. Weeks turned into months with no follow-up. Then, over two months later, they finally contacted me saying they were still deciding. They never just said no, but kept saying they'd follow up and then never did. So unprofessional. I've noticed they still haven't filled the position, and I'm not surprised. If you're a professional in this industry, I'd avoid this company; they're clearly still figuring out how to run a business.

Behavioral Technical Other

The interview process was pretty extreme. I first started off with a phone interview that took about a half hour. Then, the next step was to take two different tests, one being a personality test and the second being a comprehension/IQ test that you had to complete 50 questions in 12 minutes. After that step, I had another interview, but this one being a video call. Once they moved forward with me, they assigned me a project to complete in an hour. The project was to design a home page for a website. After that, they finally called me for an in-person interview. For this last final step, I had to meet with three different people. They made the impression that they really enjoyed talking to me and said that they would reach out in a week to let me know the decision they have made. Well, after two weeks went by, I didn't hear anything from them. That really rubbed me the wrong way because after putting me through such a long interview process that took about 2 months to do, they at least could have sent me an email letting me know they went with someone else and telling me what I could work on. Overall seems like a very small company who really cares about who they are bringing on board to their team, which is a very good thing.

Case Behavioral

The interview process started with a quick application submission. After that, I had a phone interview, followed by a timed case study activity. Then, there was one more interview before they made the final decision. The case study was a pretty unique experience, but not too difficult. The interviews themselves were more like conversations, and the recruiter was really nice and helpful.
