First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SpartanNash.
Business Intelligence Analyst
It was pretty straightforward, they really focused on the company culture and the people. Not many technical questions, but they really wanted to know how you handle hardships, teamwork, and stuff like that. They asked about past projects and wanted to make sure you could explain what you did.
- Could you describe the company and its culture for me?
Manager
The interview process involved a phone screening, a manager screening, and then onsite or online panel interviews. The communication was a bit off, and the scheduling wasn't great for the interviewers, with a 5-hour break between some interviews and others on different days. Some interviewers seemed disengaged. One interviewer was late, and another didn't even show up and it wasn't rescheduled.
- Given my skepticism about PhDs and concerns you might pursue academia, why should I hire you?
Data Analyst Intern
The interview process involved one meeting with the hiring manager. It was a pretty relaxed conversation, mostly behavioral questions and a discussion about my resume. The hiring manager handled most of the communication about the job. Around 100 interns were hired that year.
- What makes you want to work in this position?
Warehouse Supervisor
I was contacted by a recruiter and had a phone screen. Then, I met with a three-person panel. I got a verbal offer and was told to watch my email for the written one. After that, communication dropped for a week. Then, HR from corporate headquarters screened me again. My offer was rescinded due to restructuring. I spoke with the interim regional director, and we made a timeline for follow-up, which went well. We talked for over an hour about our 5-year plans, personal growth, and work styles while walking. I got concerned when the interim said 'it runs itself.' After they didn't respond by the timeline, I was told I wouldn't get the offer letter as verbally offered. The whole thing happened from December 2023 to February 2024. This was the worst interview experience I've had.
- How would you handle an employee who isn't performing well?
