Operations Coordinator
The Sparrow interview process for Operations roles involves a few steps. It starts with a voice-only Zoom screening, followed by a take-home assignment. After that, there's a skills assessment. If you successfully complete those, you'll have a behavioral interview with the hiring manager and a team Q&A session. Your references will be contacted around this final stage, and if everything checks out, you'll receive an offer. They might also suggest you for a different role if they think you're a better fit, and if you're open to it, you'll proceed with the interview process for that position.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Could you share your previous experience?
- Describe a manager you admired and their management approach.
Operations Coordinator
I had applied for a different role but was contacted about the Operations Coordinator position instead. After expressing interest, we scheduled an initial Zoom audio call. Following that interview, the process was outlined as a take-home evaluation with sample emails needing responses, then an assessment, and finally a panel interview. The entire process was expected to take about a month. During the initial Zoom call, I was asked about my other interviews and their stages. I was honest about being in early stages elsewhere but interested in Sparrow. They offered to speed things up if I had progressing interviews with others, which showed their interest and flexibility. However, the initial Zoom interview itself was quite awkward, with long silences and little engagement. Because this wasn't my original application, I asked for more details about the day-to-day responsibilities, but instead, I was asked what attracted me to the role, how I heard about the company, and why I was interested. My question was never answered, which made me hesitant to ask others. I didn't get any information about the company or the interviewer's role. The interview focused solely on them getting to know me, not me getting to know them or the company, which was disappointing given I couldn't find much online about them. Despite the interview's awkwardness, my resume and cover letter were praised, and I received detailed information about the next steps, suggesting continued interest. However, nearly two weeks later, I received a rejection email stating they only hire '1% of applicants,' which felt condescending. The interviewer's positive comments had led me to believe I'd proceed, so this rejection was a surprise. I think the company, being small (around 20 people), needs to improve its hiring process, interview questions, dedicate time to discuss the company, answer candidate questions, and respond promptly. They seem very selective. I would not recommend interviewing here.
- What prompted your interest in this specific role and in Sparrow?
- Can you share an instance where you made an error?
- Could you identify your most significant weakness and describe how you're addressing it?
Operations Coordinator
What a terrible experience with their "Hiring" person. She wouldn't talk about salary on the first call and was kinda rude. I still did the take-home work, and then she said they wanted to move on to a 1.5 hour zoom skills assessment. I gave her my availability but asked again about the salary range (can't believe they expect people to do all this without knowing about pay). Then, completely ghosted. No reply even after I gave my availability for the next step. I followed up, still nothing. So unprofessional, they don't care about candidates at all, couldn't even send a quick email after I did multiple steps. I'd never want to work with people who treat candidates like that.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in Sparrow and this specific position?
