Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SPAR.
Sales Assistant
It was a quick and friendly chat about the job and what's expected. I got a tour to see how things work day-to-day. I left feeling good about it and knowing what to expect. Heard back really quickly and got the job.
- Can you tell me about your interpersonal skills?
- Have you used POS software before?
- How familiar are you with HACCP, as you might need to work in the deli?
Sales Assistant
The interview wasn't too formal which was good since it was my first interview ever, so it wasn't too stressful. The manager asked a lot of questions about different scenarios, and I answered them. The interview lasted about an hour, and the manager was really friendly. Overall, it was a really nice and successful interview. After that, there were a few induction days where I was tested on things like health and safety, and then on the till systems, including age-restricted sales.
- What would you do if a jar broke on the floor?
Sales Assistant
I applied by sending an email and then got called in for an interview after a few days. I was in the back office, which was pretty small, and I spoke with the store manager who had some questions ready, and the area manager was there too, writing down my answers and making notes. The whole thing took about 20 minutes.
- Can you tell me about a time you really went the extra mile for a customer?
- What is your understanding of customer service, and why is it crucial?
- Share an example of when you had to take the initiative.
