First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spacelabs Healthcare.
Principal Software Engineer
I went through three interviews. The first was a personal interview, and the other two were technical. The personal interview and the first technical interview went great, and the interviewers liked me. The technical test was a simple substring search. The last interview, however, was terrible. The interviewer was really rude and condescending, cutting me off constantly. This made it impossible to think aloud and show my thought process during the test. He talked over me and explained basic concepts like I was a beginner. The test was a basic unit test/mocking example, but his behavior made it hard to make progress. He apparently told the agency my skills weren't good enough. I didn't get an offer, and honestly, I wouldn't want to work for that person or a company that has people like him.
- Can you find the location of a substring within a list of strings in C++?
Software Engineer
This was one of the strangest interview experiences I've ever had. Unbeknownst to me at the time, two of the five interviewers were not going to be around much longer. Two of them couldn't really assess my technical skills. I was expecting a more technical grilling, but it ended up being more of a sit-down chat. This probably worked in my favor, but it was odd for the tech industry.
- Thinking about redesigning a part of our system, how would you approach it?
Software Engineer
The interview process typically consists of 3–4 stages, including an initial recruiter screening, a technical interview, and one or two further rounds focusing on system design, problem-solving, and team fit.
