First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spacelabs Healthcare.
Principal Software Engineer
I went through three interviews. The first was a personal interview, and the other two were technical. The personal interview and the first technical interview went great, and the interviewers liked me. The technical test was a simple substring search. The last interview, however, was terrible. The interviewer was really rude and condescending, cutting me off constantly. This made it impossible to think aloud and show my thought process during the test. He talked over me and explained basic concepts like I was a beginner. The test was a basic unit test/mocking example, but his behavior made it hard to make progress. He apparently told the agency my skills weren't good enough. I didn't get an offer, and honestly, I wouldn't want to work for that person or a company that has people like him.
- Can you find the location of a substring within a list of strings in C++?
QA Test Engineer
It was a great hiring process. I had a one on one with the manager. They asked a lot of questions about my past experiences. I think I was smart, I brought with me a portfolio with work examples. Over the years, without violating any NDAs, I keep records of some of the work I have done for different projects. I keep my best work. I then bring good examples with me to the interview. Test plans, Test cases and Defects (Bugs). This always seems to impress the interviewer and it helps me to look at and answer their questions without having to think too hard or over explain. It's all right there in front of me and the interviewer to look at.
- Do you know what SDLC stands for and how is it different than Agile?
- Do you understand Requirements and why do we have requirements?
- What is 'Software Quality Assurance'?
Technical Project Manager
I got a call from the company. The interview itself was pretty chill. Two people interviewed me for the whole time. They looked at my resume and talked about different parts of the role to see if I was a good fit. It was pretty technical, which makes sense. They asked how I understood the challenges of development and issues that come up when developing certain devices. It felt like they were more interested in my hardware understanding than my software development skills.
- Considering a healthcare device with its board exposed, what would you say is the most challenging aspect of its construction?
Service Technician
The interview process at Spacelabs Healthcare was super fast and simple. Everyone involved, from the recruiter to the interviewers, was really nice, easy to talk to, and upfront about everything. Any questions I had were answered quickly, making the whole thing not stressful at all. They clearly cared about keeping me in the loop and making sure I was comfortable the whole time. All in all, it was a good and uncomplicated experience!
