First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Southwestern Energy.
Analyst
I applied online and had to update my resume and cover letter. Then, an HR rep called me to set up a time and date. I picked a time that worked best for both of us. After that, I met with the supervisor of the position. They said I need to have thirty words.
- Could you tell me a little about yourself?
- What would you say are your greatest strengths?
Engineer
It was a virtual chat with the engineering manager. It lasted about 30 minutes. We talked about my past work and what I knew about the company. They also let me know about the work schedule and what they expect from people working in the office.
- Can you tell me about your past experience?
- What is your understanding of our company?
- What are your thoughts on the in-office work schedule and expectations?
Geologist
I sent in my resume through my university's recruiting system. About a month after, they emailed me saying I'd been chosen for an interview. The date was already set, but I could pick the time. It was a 30-minute interview. Early on, they asked if I had any internship experience, and I said no. They didn't seem thrilled, and the interview kind of went downhill after that. The interviewer spent most of the time talking about his company, not asking much about me or my background, and not giving me much chance to talk. Towards the end, I got to ask questions. I asked some standard ones like what he enjoys about working there. He seemed tired by then, maybe because I was the last one, and he cut the interview a few minutes short. Two months later, I got the rejection email.

Intern
I interviewed at the Houston Student Expo. It was a one-on-one interview. The interviewer started off by giving me a 10-minute presentation about SWN and how the company works. I already knew everything he was telling me because I studied the company in advance. Then he just told me to tell him something about myself. I did, and I was called for a second interview. I met three senior level management for lunch. Two were nice but I could feel a weird vibe from one of them. Needless to say, I didn't get an offer.
