Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Southwest Airlines.
Technical Operations
The hiring process was quite lengthy, taking nearly three months from application to the initial phone call. This first conversation primarily focused on reviewing my resume, professional background, and technical skills. Following that, I was invited for an in-person interview which was scheduled just four days after the phone screen.
- Could you tell me about a weakness you possess and how you manage it?
Operations
Applied and got an email within days to schedule a phone interview. After that, they said they would schedule an in-person interview. I was nervous and they suggested I study, so I watched YouTube videos and reviewed posts online. The in-person interview happened, and two people interviewed me. I'm glad I prepared like they suggested. By the time I got back to work, I had already received a contingent offer pending my background check, fingerprinting, and drug test. That was the easy part. My suggestion is to make sure you fill out everything and go in with questions to ask them. THAT IS A BIG ONE.
- Why do you want to work for Southwest?
Operations
After you apply online, you wait for an email with an offer. If you accept, you'll do some in-house training and see the facility. Then you'll do online or HQ training. After that, you can start working on the floor but trainers from Operations will be watching. Most new hires do well after this. The training is tough but worth it.
- What kind of value do you think you'd add to the Southwest team?
- How do you handle conflict?
- Can you handle a demanding work environment?
