Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Southwest Airlines.
Associate Consultant
It was great! The process was a little lengthy, but they asked thoughtful questions that were really intentional. The length came from waiting time between each interview, not necessarily the interview itself. They were all about 45 mins long. I ultimately didn't end up getting the offer, but the recruiter called to tell me that I was in the final two, and why they ultimately went with the other person. He even described the exact question that it came down to, which I was really grateful for and impressed with.
- Tell me about yourself / behavioral questions
- What do you know about the airline industry?

I was first reached out by a recruiter via email and we scheduled a call. Later that week, I interviewed with the hiring manager. The recruiter chat was mainly about my fit for Southwest, my motivations, and some situational questions. The manager interview was more focused on the role itself, and I felt good about it because I have airline industry experience. Unfortunately, about a week later, I received a rejection email. I tried to get feedback from the recruiter but they went silent, which was disappointing. I'm hoping to understand what went wrong so I can improve for future applications.
- Can you explain your approach to working on a project or initiative?

Applied for the job on the first day it was posted. Got an email 10 days later, which seemed a bit off because it wasn't from a wnco email. It said to click a link and pick an interview time within 48 hours, or I'd be considered to have self-ejected. After checking, I found out it was legit. About 10 days after the email, I had a phone interview with an internal recruiter. Then, 4 days later, I got another email for a virtual interview with the recruiter and hiring manager. It seemed to go well, but they were clearly looking for someone with aviation industry experience. Found out a day later they were moving on with another candidate. The recruiter did give me some feedback.
- If you were to join, what would be the first thing you'd change?
- What's your understanding of this particular Southwest program?
- Can you describe an instance where you collaborated with different teams internally?
