First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Southwest Airlines.
Intern
Super smooth and easy, they communicated really well and were so nice! I sent in my application October 1st, the application period ended October 15th, and by October 23rd I got notifications for the first interview. The recruiters let me know exactly when to expect news about the last interviews, and those happened quickly too. I got my offer just one day after my interview for the job I took. I never had to just wait around and wonder what was going on with the hiring process. I've recruited with all the major US airlines for their internship programs before, and I can tell you for sure Southwest's process was the best.
- What makes you want to work at Southwest specifically?
Cadet
The interview process was split up into two 45 min sessions with a 15 min break in between. It was very relaxed and conversational, with the typical "Why SWA?" Strengths/Weaknesses, Conflict/Resolution type of questions. I had fun and remember laughing during the interview. They just want to know what type of person are you and want to see you generally relaxed, able to laugh at yourself if you mess up while talking (like I did) and not an overly nervous wreck.
- How did you learn about D225 and why did you apply?
- How are you getting ready for this experience?
- How do others describe you?
Intern
It was a pretty long interview process, but the interviews themselves weren't too tough. The role actually got canceled about a month after I interviewed, though. It involved one phone screen and then an on-site interview with both the recruiter and the hiring manager. I applied back in November, and they called me in February for the phone screen. The on-site was in March. Everyone I met at Southwest Airlines was really nice and made me feel welcome.
- Can you describe a recent project where you had to collaborate with several different teams?
