HR handles this hiring process and it's the same for all non-managerial roles. You'll work with a Recruitment Consultant who will guide you through different interviews, including ones with a panel and with potential supervisors. Everyone applying for a job gets the same questions.
- Given the need to collaborate with development, programmatic, and creative teams, how would you handle competing priorities and deadlines to achieve set goals?
- Can you share the tools, skills, or resources you employ for organization and an instance where they led to a successful project outcome?
- Tell us about a situation where you assisted with a project outside your purview. How did your contribution affect your own priorities and what was the final result?
Attorney
Got the initial reach out from a headhunter. The recruiting firm gave a solid overview of the organization and the job. Since SPLC has job descriptions and duties, a lot of the questions were tied to those. We went through a few interviews: first the recruiter, then a panel, then the department director, and finished with a meet and greet with some folks from the same practice group.
- Can you talk about the theory of change for this practice area?
Data Engineer
The interview process took way too long. The first interview was scheduled quickly, but then it took a month for the second, and another month for the third. After that, several weeks passed with no updates. I contacted the recruiter, who didn't reply, then I contacted someone else who forwarded my message to the same recruiter. They finally responded to say I didn't get the job. The interviews themselves were okay. The first one was just about my work history and why I wanted to work there. The second was a bit more technical, one-on-one. The last one was a panel interview with a group asking both technical and non-technical questions. I heard that the final interview always asks the same questions to everyone without follow-ups to prevent bias. It was actually more relaxed than I thought it would be. Honestly, I think I dodged a bullet because if the hiring process took over three months and I had to chase them for an update, I can only imagine what working there is like. I respect the organization and its mission, but it doesn't seem very organized or well-run. They should really speed up their hiring process because many qualified candidates probably give up waiting and accept other offers.
- Can you explain the difference between the TRUNCATE and DELETE commands in SQL?
Intake Coordinator
I was contacted after applying by Brittany in HR. I had a preliminary screening phone call with her. After that, it would take weeks to hear an update. Then I would get an invitation to a Zoom call. Attorneys, previous intake coordinators, and various other employees were on the Zoom calls. The Zoom calls were heavily scripted, so the employee would robotically ask a question and I'd respond. They were not allowed to ask follow up questions, so it was nearly impossible to establish any sort of rapport with the interviewers. I had 2 Zoom calls, with about a month and a half ago between each call. I would email Brittany for an update, only to hear back from her 3 weeks later with “Sorry! Here’s a Zoom link to the next step in the interview process”. Ultimately, after about 4.5 months of waiting, I get a script email from Brittany that I have not been chosen. No reason why, no explanation.
- How do you handle delivering bad news to people, given that this job involves turning down those who ask for help?
