Project Manager
It starts with phone screens, either with a recruiter or the hiring manager. Then, there's an in-person interview, but sometimes they do video-conferences. They use a mix of interview styles, but everyone gets structured, behavioral interviews, even for executive roles. Interviewers usually get together by the end of the day to discuss. Depending on the specific job, they might also use assessment centers, work samples, knowledge tests, aptitude tests, and technical interviews.
- Can you share an example of when you had to make a choice without existing precedent or clear policy? What information influenced your decision? What action did you take? How did you inform others? What happened as a result? In retrospect, would you have made the same choice?
Project Manager
I applied online and it took about a month for the recruiter to reach out. The recruiter then arranged everything for a panel interview. When I arrived, they asked me to introduce myself and then proceeded to ask around 8 detailed questions from a notebook. They mentioned they'd be taking notes the whole time. Each question had about 3-4 parts. They suggested I take notes too, which was helpful because I could refer to them while answering.
- Describe a situation where a project was not delivered on time, including the process used, the cause of the delay, the impact on stakeholders, and the resolution.
Project Manager
I found this role on the UCI alumni career site and applied. The company recruiter reached out, and we had a phone chat. Then I talked to the hiring manager. It was a relaxed and friendly chat. We discussed the role and my background and how I'd fit. Because this job is in a sensitive and secure place, they did a thorough background check and a drug test. After I was hired, I had to take a psych test. They also do random drug tests sometimes after hiring, but only for people who go into secure areas.
- Can you tell me about a challenging situation you faced in your career and explain how you dealt with it?
