First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sourcebooks.
Editorial Manager
It was a few rounds, with one being purely informational. I started with the HR recruiter to check for cultural fit. After that, I met with a colleague at my level to discuss Sourcebooks and the role, and then I spoke with the manager of the role.
- In what ways does your previous work align with the requirements of this job?
Editor
So, before I could even talk to anyone who wasn't HR, I had to do this personality test. After that, there was a phone screen, and then a bunch of interviews with different editors in the department. The conversations were all pretty good, felt relaxed and positive. It wasn't super clear what the next steps were after each interview, though.
- What makes you want to pursue a career in publishing?
Editor
I was given a pretty long editing test where I had to read half a book, edit a chapter, and fill out a questionnaire about my work habits and experience. After that, I had a Skype interview with three people. It felt like a bad sign when they said I'd be talking to four people, but one of them, the HR person, didn't show up. I followed up, but I never heard back from them, which was really rude but unfortunately not that surprising these days.
- How did you manage situations with an overwhelming workload?
