Behavioral

The process started with a recruiter call to check my interest in the job and the company. Then I had a 30-minute chat with the hiring manager where she asked 2-3 behavioral questions like 'tell me a time when...'. The final round was a 60-minute panel interview with 4 team members. I was a bit nervous because it was my first panel interview, but they were friendly and made me feel welcome. The panel was very structured and patient with their questions. They asked 5-6 behavioral questions, so it's important to be brief but hit the key points. They also asked a few follow-up questions, but it never felt intimidating.

Technical Coding System Design

This interview really dug into a lot of the core stuff for data engineering. They wanted to see how I handle building out ETL pipelines, my day-to-day plans for getting files in, and how I manage all the different settings for environments like dev, test, and prod. We also talked about how code gets moved up the chain, making sure data is good quality, and even some leadership stuff around diversity and inclusion. Plus, they quizzed me on SCD2 modeling and how to use SQL for some more complex calculations like moving averages and running totals.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain your methods for managing configuration settings across various deployment environments, such as development, testing, and production?
  • Following up on that, what is your process for promoting ETL code to the production environment?

Behavioral Technical

Started with initial phone screen by hiring manager. Then a panel style onsite. Mostly questions about your background and situational questions and scenarios. It took about a month or so. The follow-up was very poor. Did all the right things (thank you and periodic email to "check-in on progress" with HR). When, or if, HR responded it was with status quo non-answers stating that the process was still "in process" along with promises to provide updates when progress happened. When it was time to move on it simply became a test of professional etiquette. Silence......

  • Can you describe the different parts of a service?
