Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sorenson Communications.
Software Engineer
Had a standard phone screen where we talked about culture fit. Then there were some multiple choice C++/general programming questions, which was a bit unusual for a phone interview. Before the first phone call, I had to do a simple coding exercise via email that they planned to review in the next interview. After that, there was a video interview with the hiring manager and a senior engineer. We discussed my solution to the coding exercise, and they asked how I'd add or change some features. They also asked some follow-up questions based on what I'd said earlier. There was supposed to be a second interview focused on technical skills with live coding, but I didn't get invited to that one.
- Can you explain the difference between Java and JavaScript?
- What are some key features of TypeScript?
- How would you declare a smart pointer in C++? (this was multiple choice)
Software Engineer
We had about 1-3 rounds of HR interviews which were mostly for behavioral questions and to verify my experience. Then there was 1 round of technical interview with the team members where they asked technical questions based on my past experience and some code assignments. Finally, there was 1 round job offer interview with a leadership member.
- Tell me about your past experience using the x development framework for this role.
Software Engineer
I went through 4 interviews in total. First, a recruiter called me. Then I had a code review with the Director of Software Engineering. After that, I did an interview and coding assessment with the Director and another engineer. Lastly, I had a final interview with the VP of Engineering. Overall, it was a good experience.
- The technical interview involved a standard algorithm problem, which I had to solve using C++.
