Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sony.
Product Manager
It was a really open and welcoming interview process. The first interview was all about competencies, really digging into my past experiences. Then, for the second stage, I had to do a presentation based on a product brief they gave me, and I presented it to the hiring manager and some directors.
- Can you share an instance where a project you were involved in didn't go as planned and explain how you managed it?
Product Manager
The application process included a phone call and an interview. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience. The job posting was just for "Product Manager" without specifying a category. During the phone screen, they weren't sure about the category. However, by the interview stage, they expected me to know it was for the TV category. They also promised an answer the following week, regardless of their decision. I didn't hear back for a month, and I had to follow up twice to finally get a "no".
- In your opinion, what makes our products superior to those of our competitors?
Product Manager
I found the role through a recruiter and we chatted over the phone and email about it. The first step was an interview with the hiring manager, focusing on my competencies and asking standard questions. Then, I had about a week to prepare a presentation for the hiring manager and the wider team. After presenting, I took questions from them. The third stage involved meeting with the hiring manager and HR, where I took some psychometric and personality tests. Before an offer was made, there was an informal meeting with the hiring manager to discuss things that came up in the psychometric and personality tests, and I also met with the Business Unit MD.
- There were questions regarding my performance on certain psychometric tests, which was unexpected.
