Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sonoco (SC).
Packaging Engineer
The hiring process felt kinda long bc of the wait between interviews and the offer. Mostly just talked to people on the team, my direct manager, and the department managers. They asked about how I've tackled challenges and about past projects that seemed like a good fit for what they're looking for. Also got the typical personality questions about how I handle disagreements, conflicts, or tough situations.
- Can you share an example of a project where you successfully resolved a complicated issue?
- Could you discuss a past project that you feel is a strong match for our company's requirements?
- What's your approach when dealing with disagreements?
Project Engineer
The first interview was a phone/video call with the hiring manager. We talked about my background, experience, and how I handle projects and process things. Then, I had an in-person interview at the facility with the engineering manager and two other engineers. We went deeper into project management topics, like budgeting and how to propose expenses. They also brought up some of my social media activity, mainly LinkedIn. I really liked the open and private chats I had with the other engineers.
- What is the total number of projects you have managed?
- Of the projects you have managed, how many were successfully implemented?
- Could you walk me through your process for requesting project funding?
Engineer
I met an HR rep at a school job fair who was really nice and set up an interview for the next day. The interview had pretty standard questions, nothing too surprising. They said I'd hear back in a few weeks, but I never did. I even emailed the rep and didn't get a reply. I guess I didn't get the offer because I hadn't done an internship before.
- Can you share an instance where you had to collaborate with individuals you found difficult to get along with?
