Store Manager
I had three interviews in two different places. First, I went to the store I applied to, but the manager was arguing with a customer on the sales floor on a busy Saturday. It was awkward and she wasn't handling it well. When we finally talked, she seemed uninterested and told me the position wasn't available. I left, but later that day, a manager from another location called. A position had just opened up, so I met her at a coffee shop later that week. She was nice, professional, took notes, and asked detailed questions. It was much better. Then I met with the district manager a few days after that. She was also nice and took notes, but she focused all her questions on why I was better than the internal candidate.
- What would be your next step if we decided not to move forward with hiring you?
- Is wearing makeup to work something you typically do?
Store Manager
It was a pretty thorough process. I went through three interviews, and each one was about an hour long. Everyone I spoke with was really positive and seemed genuinely passionate about the company. I got to ask them a lot of questions, and they gave me direct, honest answers. They were really open about what they were looking for in a candidate, why they had the opening, and what the plans were for the district in the next six months.
- Tell me about a situation where you had a conflict with another manager.
Store Manager
Applied online and did some tests (IQ, behavior, management style). Had a phone interview, then an in-person with DSM, and another phone interview with another DSM. The in-depth interview with 2 District Store Managers covered my background, past successes, and future plans for the role.
- Tell me about your process for opening a new store.
- How do you go about finding new candidates for a store?
- What qualities do you seek in potential hires?
