General Manager
The interview process was straightforward. It began with a hiring manager meeting, followed by a final presentation to the current GM. There was a phone screening, but it was more of a background check than a formal interview.
- What are your aspirations for the first year?
- What do you envision for yourself in five years?
- Where do you see yourself in ten years?
General Manager
I saw an APPA posting for a General Manager of Facilities role and applied. The recruiter called me back the next business day for a 30-minute screening call to check my interest in the job, location, and pay. They also got enough info to see if I might be a good fit. At the end of the call, I got a link to apply online with Sodexo and was set up for a 30-minute competency interview the next day. Sodexo has a big list of competencies, some general and some specific to the role. The second interview focused on behavioral questions related to these competencies. To prep, I thought about my achievements in relation to these competencies and used the format they sent me (they provided an interview guide). I'm now waiting to see if I'll get an in-person interview.
- Can you share an experience where you began a project and realized a critical resource was unavailable?
General Manager
It was a 2 stage interview process. First was a basic review of my CV and experience, then a competency-based interview. No verbal or psychometric tests were involved. I had to prepare a presentation on how I'd drive brand standards and measure them, which was followed by a panel interview with HR and operations. Finally, I had a 20-minute chat with the MD as a sense check, where I was asked about managing budget and P&L and the levers I'd use to drive margin.
- What impact would you make in your first six months?
- Could you outline your strategy for driving and measuring brand standards?
- Describe your approach to managing the budget and P&L.
