First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SmithGroup.
Intern
The hiring process was straightforward and pleasant. It began with a video conference link sent by HR. I had a 30-minute interview with two architects who were very friendly. The questions were not difficult, and it seemed like they were genuinely interested in understanding my design process and getting to know me. I heard back about two weeks later, and unfortunately, I didn't receive an offer because they didn't have the capacity to hire another intern at that time. However, about a month later, they contacted me again and offered me an interior design internship for the summer.
- Can you explain how you developed the concept for your design?
- Walk me through one of your projects.
Intern
SmithGroupJJR came to our university and picked a bunch of candidates. They seemed to go for people who had a lot of experience with Revit and construction documents. I only had one interview with them, and I didn't get chosen for another one. The person interviewing me was really friendly and talked a lot, making it feel like a real conversation. He even followed up with me via email a couple months later to answer some questions I had.
- Could you describe the type of project you'd most enjoy working on?
Intern
The interview process was quick, taking less than two weeks from scheduling to completion. They were responsive to any questions I had, making it an average experience overall.
- What are your learning objectives for this internship?
