First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Smithbucklin.
Associate
I applied online for an Associate role at Tech Image, part of SmithBucklin. Got a phone interview request over a month later. It was a pretty standard phone screen, very conversational, mostly about my background. The HR person was friendly and answered all my questions about the company and role. Soon after, I was invited for an in-person interview with the Tech Image team. There were four separate one-on-one interviews that lasted about two hours. They were open about their work, clients, etc. Nothing tricky during these either. They told me they were going with another candidate in the end, but everyone was very professional and polite throughout the whole experience.
- Can you tell me what you know about AP writing?
- Could you describe your background?
Senior Associate
The interview process was pretty straightforward and met my expectations. A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and connected me with the hiring manager. They were really great throughout. The only frustrating part was the constant shuffling of people involved in scheduling the in-person interview – I spoke with 3 different people just to set that up. The interview itself went well though. I spoke with 3 people in the first round and one new person in the final round. The questions were pretty standard, nothing too surprising. Overall, it was a smooth process and I got an offer, though I had to decline due to family reasons.
- Describe a situation where you were responsible for a miscommunication and explain how you fixed it.
Senior Associate
First, I had a phone interview with someone from Chicago. Then, I went to the DC office to meet with two people individually. A week and a half later, I met with two more pairs of people. In total, I met with HR, a manager, a supervisor, and some staff members who have the same job title as the open position. Some meetings were one-on-one, and others were two-on-one. There was a lot of waiting around between interviews. I noticed some questions were repeated. It seems like a great company, but the interview process was a big commitment. I had to take a lot of time off from my current job and also complete an online personality test. It was disappointing to put in so much effort and not receive an offer.
- Tell me about a time you said something that was misunderstood.
