Grocery Manager
The store manager talked to me and asked some basic questions like if I had retail or management experience, why I wanted to be a grocery manager, and how I handle confrontation.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with this company?
- Do you have prior experience in retail?
- Do you have previous management experience?
Grocery Stocker
I got there early like they wanted and then had to wait for the interviewer for like half an hour. They took me to the back and asked me maybe four or five questions. Then they told me to call them the next day. So I did, and they seemed kind of annoyed I called. They kept me hanging for two weeks, and then I got an email saying they were passing me up for someone more qualified even though I have 8 years of retail experience. It was pretty ridiculous and one of the worst interview experiences I've had. I wouldn't recommend this company, they seem disorganized.
- Are you secretly working for Wal-Mart?
- Since the position you applied for is no longer available, would you be interested in other departments?
Cashier
It's a bit of a drawn-out and not super organized process, and you might need to follow up because they get a lot of applicants. The main interviewer can be a bit intimidating. They really care about how long you'll stay because they have a high turnover rate. They want someone who's a real team player, meaning they can count on you to come in when someone else calls out. All in all, it's a pretty simple interview, just try to figure out what they're looking for and show that you want to grow, and you'll be fine.
- How long do you plan on staying with the company?
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
Sales Associate
I was asked to show up around opening with my resume. When I got there, the general manager met me. We sat in the deli and they asked me a few questions about my commute, work ethic, and ability to work with others. Then they thanked me and said I'd hear back within a few weeks.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you confirm you have reliable transportation to and from work?
- What motivates you to seek employment with us?
