Had a phone call. The interviewer was about 15 minutes late calling, saying the office was hectic. It seemed like priorities there change constantly, which made it sound like not a great place to work.

It was a pretty standard process. First, there was a short phone call, about 30 minutes long. Then, I traveled to their headquarters for a longer session, about 4-6 hours, where I met with the whole team. Everyone was professional and kept things relaxed, just as you'd expect. I encountered some questions that required me to think critically and come up with solutions on the spot.

It was a pretty standard interview process. First, there was a phone screen, followed by a short take-home project. Then, there were in-person interviews with both management and developers. Everyone seemed really nice, and the company felt like a great place to work. However, something happened that kind of ruined the experience for me. After the interview, I got positive feedback and felt good about the company. About a week later, the internal recruiter at SmileDirectClub told me they wanted to offer me a job and had already decided on the salary. But before they could give me the offer, they insisted I provide proof of my current salary by sharing a recent paystub or W-2. This is actually illegal in some places. I'm not sure about where I am, but I refused to share it and asked them to proceed with the offer anyway. At that point, they stopped negotiating. The recruiter mentioned this is their usual process for all candidates, so if you're interviewing with SmileDirectClub, be prepared for this. If I had known negotiations would end so quickly, I wouldn't have bothered applying.
