Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SMC Corporation.
Engineer
This was a pretty straightforward interview process. First, there was a recruiter call, then a technical screen where they asked typical questions about my studies and interests. They also asked if I had any prior knowledge about pneumatics. Lastly, I was given a catalogue test.
- Can you explain how an air gripper functions?
- Tell me about what you did during your studies.
- What are you interested in?
Project Engineer
The response time between the first call and the interview is too long. It could be faster. We do not benefit from remote work even if we live far away. Engineers are nonetheless kind overall. We accompany you in your career path at the start and possibility to move horizontally internally.
- Can you cite examples of components from specific sectors?
Engineer
It was a full day assessment center, kicked off with a quick look at their products in the showroom. Then there were a bunch of quizzes and assessments to see how we did, plus lunch. After that, I had to give a presentation to some managers on a topic I picked. Then, I went through a few smaller interviews with different departments to check if I could understand the products we'd be working on, like actuators and valves. The day ended with an interview with the lead manager of the subsidiary.
- Can you share your strengths and explain how they would be an asset to the company?
