I got a call one afternoon and the owner asked me to come in the next day for an interview. This was about a week after I applied. I went in and asked for the owner. A manager told me he wasn't there yet and to go grab a drink and sit down. I waited about 15 minutes. The manager then came over with some paperwork for legal name, SSN, address, etc. and left me to fill it out. When the interview started, they took the paperwork and my resume. They asked me some basic questions and gave me compliments. They told me I'd be working in the front of the house, what my job would be, and how things worked. I said it sounded good and asked to come in after two days to fill out more paperwork, get a uniform, and get a tour. My first day of work would be the day after that. I don't need much more training and I'm doing pretty good for my first job.

It was a quick and to-the-point interview, they were looking for a dependable, reliable, and experienced cook. They also made sure to mention that if I got hired, I'd become a full-time employee, and that this company has room for growth.

I sat down with the interviewer outside the restaurant in a relaxed way. They were professional but kept things chill. We talked about my experience with kitchen tasks or using the register, and they asked which I liked better. I said the kitchen, and that seemed to work out. They asked other general stuff about who I am, how I work, and my personality. I mentioned I liked the kitchen better because I wouldn't have to deal with customers as much, and that was fine with them.

  • Could you tell me about your experience working in the kitchen versus at the register, and which one you prefer?
