I met with the region manager. We discussed the daily operations of a restaurant, covering both the good and bad aspects. I was asked about expected overtime. It felt more like they were trying to sell me on the job rather than me trying to sell myself. The interview lasted about 2 hours, followed by another 2 hours of an on-site practice. (The audition process for restaurant jobs isn't great in my opinion; I've experienced 3-4 and don't think it benefits the guests, candidates, or the company to have unpaid, untrained staff serving food or working in an unfamiliar setting.)

I worked there for three years before applying for the assistant manager role. My previous managers had always encouraged me to apply, but I wasn't ready until then. I went ahead and applied. My District Manager told me in person we would meet that week. The interview was straightforward, but he was new to the role and didn't know my background well. He didn't seem to realize I had trained most of the new managers in other stores, including my own store's General Manager. Despite this, he decided to hire externally.

After submitting an application on their website, I was contacted for a face-to-face interview, which typically happens about 2-4 weeks later. This first interview is usually with the hiring manager, who will ask about my background and qualifications. If they think I'm a good fit, the next step is an OJE (on-job experience) to give me a feel for the daily tasks and what to expect. Finally, there's a last interview with the director of operations.
