General Manager
Great process! Although not selected at this time I was given great feedback and asked to reapply. I will look into another role as I would be delighted to work for the company they have great food and everytime I've visited I've had excellent service
- What makes you want to work here?
Assistant General Manager
I applied for the General Manager job but after the first interview, they suggested I'd be a better fit for Assistant General Manager, but said I could be fast-tracked to GM in six months. Then I had to do an on-the-job evaluation at a store an hour away, where I observed the crew and another area manager. I asked lots of questions about how everything worked, and it seemed pretty straightforward. I stressed again that I wanted to move up to GM, and they said they'd note it. A few days later, I had a corporate interview with the district manager, which was a bit of a surprise given my experience. The questions were typical management stuff. After all that, I got an email saying if I didn't hear back in two weeks, they'd gone with another candidate. So, despite traveling to three cities, buying new shoes, and investing a lot of time, I didn't get an offer.
- Can you introduce yourself?
General Manager
Smashburger's interview process was really great, super professional and open. They have smart people working there who are focused on growing the brand. It started with a phone call with a District Manager to discuss my background. Then, I had a 1-on-1 with the District Manager, lasting about an hour, where we talked about my experience and practical restaurant management stuff. He was great about answering my questions about the company. Next was a really cool 'on the job experience' day at their Hackensack location, working with the Training General Manager, who's also an area manager. It was a fantastic chance to learn and ask questions while working the line, expediting, and serving customers. It was busy and fun, just how I like it. The last step was a phone call with the Regional Director of Operations. He gave a bigger picture view and talked about the analytics involved in running a location and how it scales. Finally, the Area Manager called to check in after my call with the Director, and then they extended an offer, pending a background check. Smart company with good systems and a solid product.
