& Process

I got to pick all my interview times. SmartThings sent me links for each step, and I could choose from several dates and times. They reached out 2 days after I applied. First, a 30-minute phone call with a recruiter to go over my resume and talk about the job. Then, a 30-minute Zoom chat with the team manager about my experience and what the team does. After that, a 90-minute Zoom technical interview with three team members where we used an online IDE with preloaded files for a single Java coding question. Then, a 1-hour onsite interview with three team members, covering both technical background and behavioral topics. Finally, a 30-minute Zoom with the Director of Engineering, mostly about the company. I got the offer 35 days after applying.

The interview process was really chill and nice. I went through 3 rounds in total. The first one was with the hiring manager, about 30 minutes, where we chatted about my background and experience, and also about company culture and fit. The second round was about 45 minutes with the manager of the team I would be joining. We talked more about the day-to-day work, the tech stack, and my experience, plus some technical database and general OOP questions. The third round was with the whole team I'd be working with. This one was about an hour long. I got to know the team members, what the work entails, and discussed some past issues. They asked me general CS questions, reviewed some of my old code, and generally assessed my capabilities. The whole process was pretty fast, quicker than other places I've applied to. They sent me an offer just 2 days after my last interview. It was a really good experience overall. Everyone was professional and easy to talk to.

A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, and I agreed to an interview. They set up a video call with the team lead. The recruiter mentioned they were impressed with my profile and wanted to interview me quickly. The interview focused on my past experiences and projects. No technical questions were asked, and the interviewer seemed very pleased. They felt I was a good fit and liked my experience. The interviewer said they'd recommend me to the hiring manager to expedite the process and schedule an in-person interview within a couple of days. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up after that. I contacted the recruiter multiple times but received no feedback. This was 7 weeks ago, and still no update. Today, the recruiter emailed to say they decided not to move forward. I did notice they reposted the same job description on LinkedIn. I'm unsure what went wrong after such a positive first round. At least some feedback would have been appreciated. It felt like they didn't have a position and were just interviewing people regardless.
