So, the whole interview thing took about a month from start to finish. It was split into 3 parts: first, a recruiter chat, then an interview with the hiring manager, and finally, two panel interviews, one for technical stuff and one for culture fit.

I got to pick all my interview times. SmartThings sent me links for each step, and I could choose from several dates and times. They reached out 2 days after I applied. First, a 30-minute phone call with a recruiter to go over my resume and talk about the job. Then, a 30-minute Zoom chat with the team manager about my experience and what the team does. After that, a 90-minute Zoom technical interview with three team members where we used an online IDE with preloaded files for a single Java coding question. Then, a 1-hour onsite interview with three team members, covering both technical background and behavioral topics. Finally, a 30-minute Zoom with the Director of Engineering, mostly about the company. I got the offer 35 days after applying.

The interview process was really strange. They didn't ask any iOS technical questions. Instead, they focused on what you've done and made hiring decisions based on your stories. If you weren't good at making things sound better or hadn't worked on the exact same app, you wouldn't get chosen. There are so many different things to work on in iOS, and no two apps are exactly the same unless maybe it's like Uber and Lyft. The recruiting and tech team felt like the most unprofessional mobile company I've seen in my 7 years of experience. I'd suggest avoiding them and looking for other jobs.

I put in my application online and the whole thing took about 3 weeks from start to finish. It started with a phone interview with two people from the company, and then they had me come in for an onsite interview. The interviews themselves were pretty friendly, though I did have to wait for the folks in Silicon Valley to get back to Tucson to do the in-person part. It's cool that they're trying to build up Tucson as a startup hub.
