Software Engineer
Started with a recruiter screen, then a 60-minute tech screen where I had to solve a medium LeetCode problem which was pretty straightforward. The final round was supposed to be 4 stages, usually spread over 2 days depending on schedules. The people there were super nice and enthusiastic, really selling the work-life balance, which is a big plus. My final round didn't go so well though. I was blindsided by the system design part and it threw me off for the API implementation, where I even missed a simple BST optimization. I did better on the next two, a behavioral and another LeetCode medium, but those are generally easier so it was too late by then. Smartsheet's acquisition by private equity means no more equity benefits, but base pay and bonus seem the same. So maybe not the best place if salary is your top priority, but if you're looking for a relaxed environment, good learning, and great colleagues, it seems like a solid choice.
- Solve a Leetcode medium DSA problem for the tech screen and one of the final rounds.
- Implement an API.
- Discuss optimizations for the API implementation, possibly using light DSA knowledge like BST.
Software Engineer
The recruiter mentioned the interview would be about 10 minutes for an intro, then 40 minutes for 1-2 coding problems, and a 10-minute wrap-up where I could ask questions. However, during the video call, the interviewer didn't provide an overview of the interview structure. After a quick intro, she asked a values-based question. I wasn't sure if a coding question was next or how much time we'd have for it. Then we proceeded to the coding problem.
- Can you share an example of a problem-solving situation?
- Let's work through a LeetCode easy problem with arrays and hash tables.
Software Engineer
I went through the Smartsheet interview process from late December 2021 to early January 2022, which lasted about 4 weeks. First, there was a recruiter phone screen with no technical questions. Then, I had a 1-hour coding session with two interviewers, where I was asked one generic LeetCode-style question. The final stage was a 5-hour loop with three coding sessions and two behavioral sessions, with coding questions adjusted to my skill level. The recruiter was responsive, and I received my offer just two days after the final interview.
- Tell me about a challenge you encountered.
- Describe a mistake you made.
- Share an experience dealing with a conflict.
