Account Executive
I applied online and was able to book a call pretty quickly. A guy conducted the meeting and was very dry, just going through a checklist with no real input. It was a bad experience overall; he seemed to lack emotional intelligence.
- Can you tell me about your reasons for changing jobs?
- What is your motivation for pursuing this particular role?
Account Executive
It was a pretty standard process. Started with a recruiter call, then met with a few Regional Directors, an RVP, and another EAE. About 6 or 7 interviews total over two weeks. One was a panel interview with 3-4 people back-to-back. The last step was a mock discovery call with my future manager.
- Can you describe the most challenging deal you've successfully closed?
- Share an instance where you had to be resourceful to secure a deal.
- How do you ensure you meet your quota by the end of each month or quarter?
Account Executive
So I talked to a third-party recruiter, then their internal recruiter, the Inside Sales Manager, an SE, and this sales rep who acted like he knew everything. The main thing they were worried about was me bouncing after 90 days. Seriously, every single person hammered on this: 'What makes us think you'll stick around?' The sales rep was a joke; honestly, I wanted to tell him off. He acted like a know-it-all but couldn't explain his own success in a way that made sense. He even implied my success was just because I worked for a big name, not because of the deals I actually closed. Wild. I kept giving specific examples for everything I said, but they just kept asking the same fear-based questions about me leaving within 90 days. Maybe they thought I was overqualified, but from what others said, their deal sizes are too small for an experienced Enterprise rep to hit their financial goals. (Funny how many wouldn't even share their quota - huge red flag!) The product itself is good, but the internal team doesn't seem set up to really land and expand in the Enterprise space like an experienced field rep would expect. Small average deal size is likely why they have high turnover. They do mention this upfront, which is fair, but the interview process was super unprofessional. They didn't follow up when they said they would, and there were long gaps between conversations. Expect to be kept in the dark a lot. Oh, and they want you to be a total expert on their solution from the first interview. Just knowing the basic tasks isn't good enough. You'll need to watch a ton of tutorials.
- Why are you interested in joining our team?
- I need to confirm your motivations for joining are genuine.
- How would you approach selling a product without a strong brand name?
