My interview process with SmartBiz started nicely, recruiters and engineers were pleasant and engaging. But, the manager interview was frustrating and disappointing. The manager wasn't interested in a conversation, barely looked up from her phone and was texting throughout. I felt like I was interrupting her when I tried to ask questions. She showed no interest in my background, skills, or experience. The interview was only 19 minutes long. I felt I didn't get a fair chance to show my abilities. Her disinterest was clear and I didn't feel valued. It was a frustrating experience that left me feeling defeated. This reinforced how important diversity and thoughtfulness in hiring is. Candidates deserve to be evaluated on merits, and interviewers should be open-minded. I hope SmartBiz improves their hiring panel diversity and ensures candidates have a chance to succeed. Despite my negative experience with the manager, I still think SmartBiz is a great company. The technical interview with engineers was enjoyable and recruiters were pleasant. However, I urge them to change their hiring process so all candidates get respect and a fair evaluation.

The interview process kicked off with a recruiter chat, followed by two interviews with senior engineers. One was more general, and the other dove into frontend specifics. Then, I had another chat with the same recruiter, mostly covering benefits and what's next. The final step was a quick talk with the VP of engineering. I got an offer the same day and accepted. The whole thing wrapped up within a week, which was super fast and way more pleasant and friendly than I've experienced elsewhere. It felt like they genuinely wanted me on board, not trying to trip me up. The folks I spoke with seemed really enthusiastic about the company.

I first got contacted by their recruiter Sheryl a few days after applying online through their website. The entire interview process took about 2 weeks. The process went as follow: 1. Open house with Sheryl and two other developers to learn more about SmartBiz and for them to know all the candidates. 2. Talk with one of the developers about a take home assignment focus on either front-end/back-end. 3. Review coding assignment with another developer. Overall, I really enjoyed interviewing with SmartBiz I think their recruiting process is the best I've encounter. They were transparent with their entire interview process and what they expect from a candidate from the start.
