Don't waste your time interviewing for this company. I got ghosted twice. Interviewed for both positions. I thought everything was going nice and smooth. I was asked to provide availability for a second interview and I get ghosted both times! I read the interview experiences for others and it was the same story. I was hopeful it wouldn't happen to me but I was so wrong. In the first interview I was told some bs about Smartbiz being transparent and my experience was nothing like it. I was told they would get back to me "in a few minutes" and still haven't gotten a response. I even called and tried multiple times to reach the interviewer through email the first time I was ghosted. Seriously this company has terrible hiring practices.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

It started with a phone call to go over the role. Then there was a cash flow exercise, which they said is mostly for recent grads, but it's not a tough one. The final stage was a one-hour interview with four people, split into two parts. First, two managers asked me to talk about myself and my sales experience. They wanted to know how I'd assess a convenience store's health just by looking at it and its balance sheet. Then, two other managers asked me to talk about myself again and my sales experience. They had me roleplay a situation with an angry client upset about variable loan rates. After that, they asked me to 'sell myself' for a good 15-20 seconds. My guess on why they repeated questions is that the first two managers missed my answers, because the job involves repeating sales pitches daily, or maybe their process isn't that great. I think the 'sell yourself' question was long to test my ability to understand, process, and recall information, which is key for sales.

I first got contacted by their recruiter Sheryl a few days after applying online through their website. The entire interview process took about 2 weeks. The process went as follow: 1. Open house with Sheryl and two other developers to learn more about SmartBiz and for them to know all the candidates. 2. Talk with one of the developers about a take home assignment focus on either front-end/back-end. 3. Review coding assignment with another developer. Overall, I really enjoyed interviewing with SmartBiz I think their recruiting process is the best I've encounter. They were transparent with their entire interview process and what they expect from a candidate from the start.

Behavioral Technical

I went through three rounds within a week and a half which is great. After the third round, they said “we will try to get back to you by EOD. We do not like things to linger for too long, that’s not the SmartBiz way”. That was on January 19th, it is now February 6th and they have not emailed me back after I checked in on the process. If the employees cannot keep their word through the interview process, what makes you think they would treat you right if you get the job. Jobs have to stop ghosting interviewee's. That makes y’all look bad and word will get out. I hope y’all get better at this. Either tell people the next steps or tell them that they did not get the job. This position has also been open since I received an email from them back in November 2023.
