First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Slomin's.
Sales Representative
I found the opening on Monster and applied online. A recruiter contacted me to schedule an in-person interview at their main office. The office seemed nice, with a laid-back atmosphere and a focus on family. After completing some initial paperwork, I met with the recruiter. He was a pleasant person with a positive attitude. However, the job description on Monster suggested sales calls and estimates, but it turns out the role involves primarily door-to-door sales due to new laws limiting cold calling from the office.
- Can you walk me through your resume?
- Could you provide specific details from your resume?
Management Training Program
I met Slomin's reps at a college job fair, we exchanged business cards and they invited me to interview for their management training program. I interviewed at their facility in Hicksville for over an hour, the interview went well, and the HR rep was friendly in her rejection letter. It was nice how they did not have all of the online personality tests and instead took the time out to interview in person. Overall was a good experience.
- Do you currently have any other employment offers?
Sales Consultant
The interview was about 30 minutes long and was one of the easier ones I've had. The hiring manager made it clear when my answers weren't what he was looking for and would repeat a question to give me another chance to elaborate. I got the impression they don't put a lot of effort into finding the right candidate.
- Were there any tough or surprising questions?
Customer Service Representative
HR reached out to set up an interview. The next week, I spoke with a Call Center Manager who's been there a while. They asked me about my customer service experience and laid out what the job entails. They made it clear that attendance and being late are serious issues. I got a call a few hours later from HR offering me the job.
- Can you tell me about a time you handled a particularly challenging customer and what the outcome was?
- Share an instance where you had a disagreement with your supervisor.
