I was first interviewed by a recruiter from an agency contracted by SD. This was conducted via Zoom. The interviewer was polite and easy to talk to. The second interview was with the team of moderators. Primarily, they wanted to understand my level of experience and technical understanding of moderation tools and the SD platform.

Case Presentation

The interview process involved a meeting with the Hiring Manager, followed by a case study round with the HM and another VP. I suspect they didn't actually hire anyone for the role and might have used the case study for their internal needs. It feels wrong to give a case study unless an offer is genuinely being considered, as it can feel exploitative when they reject you afterward. I received a rejection email shortly after submitting the case study. I've heard about this happening more often with smaller to mid-sized companies in the Bay Area, where they ask candidates for material or code, then use it internally and reject the candidate.

Behavioral Technical

I had a first zoom call with someone from recruiting that went pretty well. The next day, I picked times to meet with two managers. The second interview was a couple days later, but only one person showed up at first. Then she asked if someone else could join. It was kind of rude that neither of them had their cameras on during the zoom interview, especially since I did. She said she was 'camera shy.' The questions weren't really well thought out, and she admitted she was having trouble phrasing them. I think this might have made my answers not as good as they could have been. She kept asking what hours I could work, trying to get me to say I could work overnight, which was part of what they needed. I asked what hours they actually needed. They want someone working around the clock, which I get, but I'm not interested in working overnight for $18/hour. Also, when I asked questions, she called them 'good questions' but I wasn't sure if she meant it or if she didn't know the answers, because some of the answers weren't great. I thought I was a good fit, but maybe it's good I didn't get an offer.

Behavioral Technical Group

I sent in my application online and then got a phone interview about two weeks later. After that, I went to their LA office for a technical interview just three days later. I met with two different groups of two people. The first group had the business development manager and another intern, and the second group had two other employees. They seemed friendly and asked typical questions. They also asked about my interests and said they didn't seem to match their work culture, which I thought was unprofessional.
