First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Slalom Build.
Software Engineer
Had some slow back and forth with the recruiter over email first. Then we set up an initial screening that I passed. After that, there was a final round technical whiteboard interview. The recruiters and interviewers were all very friendly and kind.
- Could you describe basic system design concepts?
- What are some fundamental networking questions?
Principal Software Engineer
I was interviewed for a principal leader position for a Houston build branch. I was reached out by a recruiter through linked in. The recruiter was very kind and held me tight throughout the process. I was setup for initial HM screen with Director of Engineering. In that interview I was asked around general system design concepts and best practices. I was set up for a panel after that out of them 1 was system core design and 2 leadership and behavioral interviews. Throughout the process it was very very transparent. All the people I met were highly positive, had lot of passion for the work they were doing. All seemed to enjoy a lot working at Slalom. I had THE BEST INTERVIEW experience of my life.
- Can you discuss general system design concepts and best practices?
- Can you elaborate on system core design?
- What are your thoughts on leadership and behavioral questions?
Software Engineer Intern
It was a technical screening where we introduced ourselves and then went over some system design knowledge based on my past work. The interviewer gave positive feedback, a verbal job offer, some info about the next steps and where I'd be working, and even suggested tech I might like. Sadly, the internship program was cut due to the economy, so I was let go. But, the interviewer followed up saying they were really impressed with my experience and would love to offer me other opportunities in the future that fit my interests.
- Regarding SaaS and PaaS, when, how, and why would you design an architecture that can handle high volumes of traffic?
- Can you discuss current DevOps technologies, specifically Terraform and Docker?
- What are the differences between SDLC tools like Bitbucket and AWS Codecommit, and Jenkins and GitLab, and why would you choose one over the other?
