& Process

The initial stages of the interview process were okay, but I found the virtual face-to-face interview to be lacking. It felt really rushed, and I didn't really get a chance to showcase myself as a candidate. As someone with prior flight attendant experience, the recruiter's cold demeanor was quite jarring compared to the other recruiters I had interacted with during the process. I also got the impression that the recruiter was trying to dissuade me from proceeding with the company, rather than actually evaluating me fairly for the position.

I applied online and then they had me do an online test. This test was mostly about reading weather reports like METAR, TAFs, NOTAMs and using the 1-2-3 rule to figure out if an alternate airport was needed. After that, I had a video interview where they asked me how to read an approach plate from Jeppesen, and more weather reports. They also asked me about operational control and what a dispatcher does.

I withdrew my application after this, not moving on to the final interview. I wasn't happy with the group session before the final interview. They told us the training date at the start and said if it didn't work, we should reapply later. It would have been nice to know the training date before the session, but it wasn't in any correspondence. The recruiters had trouble with their microphones on Teams and didn't seem to know much about the training, joking that they hadn't been in training for 25 years. They also didn't give details about where we might be based after training, just vague ideas about senior and junior bases. They gave a lot of half-answers and personal opinions instead of stats or company policy. The participants asked good questions, but the SkyWest team wasn't prepared with the info. This session felt inefficient and unprofessional.

I attended a hiring event for this role at a hotel. You need to be ready to discuss 10 years of your work history and explain why you left each job. Since I have a long work history, we went over the last decade and my reasons for leaving each position. They really drilled down on why I left every single company. I'm not sure why this was so important to them. All my previous jobs were voluntary departures; it just felt like a waste of time getting to know me, as this took up most of the face-to-face interview. I previously worked for two mainline carriers, not in flight roles, and they asked why I didn't pursue in-flight positions with them. You know how competitive that field is, right? It's almost impossible. For one of those carriers, I was hired right at the start of COVID when few companies were hiring flight attendants. For my other jobs, they don't really need to know my personal reasons for leaving, as long as it was outside the company's control. However, I was asked some situational questions. I didn't love the process, even though the interviewers were very nice.
