Behavioral Presentation

I recently interviewed for an engineering leadership role at Skyscanner and unfortunately the candidate experience was disappointing. I was rejected at the first stage people management interview. The interviewer showed very little engagement throughout the call. No follow up questions, no interest in the examples I provided and often moved to the next question before I finished my answers. It felt more like reading from a script rather than having a genuine two way conversation. After the interview the recruiter did not respond to my follow up emails and the final rejection came through a generic automated template rather than a personal message from the recruiter I had been speaking with. No feedback was provided despite the process being advertised as a 'people first, caring, curious culture.' Overall, the experience felt impersonal and transactional. Companies often talk about 'putting people first' but I didn't see that reflected here.

Technical Behavioral

The interview process involved two video conference interviews. The first was a technical interview focusing on your expertise, where you'd describe a recent project you managed, covering requirements, assumptions, and your approach, including problem-solving from design to deployment and testing. The second interview assessed soft skills and cultural fit, looking at management, planning, and communication abilities, as well as your grasp of product and UX. This started with broad questions about your impact and instances where you missed deadlines, then went into specifics, including questions about user experience and how you measure the impact of changes at scale.

Had 4 interviews, each lasting an hour. The first was about People Management, covering how to handle both high and low performers, and building trust. Then there was a System Design interview where I had to come up with a solution to a problem. The third was about Software Delivery, involving an exercise to improve a team's process. The last one was a Culture interview, which is standard for everyone, assessing against company values. Overall, it was a really positive experience. It was longer than some interviews, but you could see the purpose of each stage, and it was a good chance to meet people from different departments. They all made me feel comfortable and worked with me to understand what they were looking for.
