Data Engineer Intern
The interview process was conducted via HireVue, involving around 5 questions. It focused on why I was interested in joining Skyscanner and my teamwork experiences. I received feedback within two weeks.
- What makes you want to join Skyscanner?
- Could you share your motivations for seeking employment at Skyscanner?
- Describe your experiences collaborating within a team environment.
Senior Data Engineer
I applied online and then the recruiter reached out to discuss role specifics and salary expectations. Next, I tackled a medium-difficulty SQL question online. This was followed by a 1-hour technical discussion focusing on my most recent project and lessons learned, where the interviewers probed deeply into my knowledge. They left 10 minutes at the end for my questions. The next day, I got feedback and scheduled the system design and cultural fit interviews, each an hour long. I opted to do both on the same day, starting with system design, then cultural fit. The system design involved discussing how I'd solve a given problem, with the interviewer asking clarifying questions to refine the approach, similar to requirement gathering. I felt the hour was a bit short given the interviewer's many questions, but we ran out of time. Again, 10 minutes were reserved for my questions. The final round was cultural fit, with many scenario-based questions that would be easier if I had prepared scenarios and used the STAR method. A week later, I received positive results and feedback.
- SQL online question
- Technical discussion about most recent project or most significant one in your career which relevant to the role
- System Design ( Revenue Management System)
Data Engineer
The interview process was super straightforward and fast; I got an offer about 1.5 weeks after applying. It started with a really nice HR call. Then, I had a chat with a senior data engineer where I mainly drew out the architecture of projects I'd done and talked through everything, plus answered questions about what happened and what could happen. I heard back the same day about the next steps. The final rounds included a system design interview specific to Data Engineering and a cultural fit check. Both were pretty easy and clear. They also had a prep HR call before these. Overall, a very smooth experience! A good tip is to apply to a bunch of jobs at the company; it ups your chances of getting to the HR stage, and you might get to choose which role you want to continue with.
- Can you walk me through the architecture of a data engineering project you've previously completed?
